The Michimura Lab is a new research group established in 2024. We experimentally study gravity through both the development of the large-scale cryogenic gravitational wave telescope, KAGRA, and various related small-scale experiments. Although these precision measurements require great effort, the field offers a wide range of exciting research opportunities driven by creativity and innovation. We are looking for motivated individuals who are eager to pursue new research through critical thinking and hands-on work, regardless of the scale of the experiment. If you are interested in a lab tour or would like to discuss opportunities with us online, please feel free to contact me by email.

Join us
Join as a graduate student
We accept graduate students from the Department of Physics at the Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo. For those who have completed higher education outside of Japan, programs such as GSGC may provide admission opportunities. For details on admission programs, please see the Department of Physics' list of graduate programs. The Michimura Lab is part of the A8 sub-course (Astrophysics and Astronomy). To get a sense of our group's atmosphere, we highly recommend visiting us or having online conversations beforehand.
A variety of scholarships are available for graduate students. See, for example, the University of Tokyo's scholarships page. Be aware that you often need to apply for them before starting graduate school. Students pursuing doctoral studies are also strongly encouraged to apply for the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowship (DC1, DC2).
Join as a postdoc
We welcome postdoctoral researchers supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) through Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan. We are open to individuals with diverse backgrounds, whether in theory or experiment, as long as they are enthusiastic about advancing research with us. Additionally, we may occasionally recruit researchers for specific projects. In any case, please contact me in advance.
